Rosary-pea, rosary-bean, prayer-bean. Fabaceae = Leguminosae > The pea family. These highly toxic seeds were used as the beads in rosaries. The specific epithet "precatorius" means "to pray". Interestingly this is also the root word for "precarious," a situation in which one must pray for their well-being!
